Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your Preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in your progression from it to the full product?

(The music in this prezi was made by myself on garage band. Just like in our horor opening and all the other horrors out there i used low, deep, pulsing cycles of bass, this is ususally carried out by a
member of the string family)
At the beginning of the year we had limited or no experience with filming and producing a short opening or film. When it came to making our preliminary task we knew whatever came out of it would improve the next time we had to produce something. In a way making more mistakes on the preliminary task was a greater outcome; it meant we could learn more from the experience and be aware of those problems when it came to our actual horror opening.

We made a few obvious errors in our preliminary:

As you can see here the sheet of paper on the left side of the folder has some visible bold text in frame. This in itself is not an issue however, in the next shot showing the folder, the original page in not there anymore and is replaced with a plain piece of paper.

This, although subtle, deters from the fluency of the clip; in addition its lazy and unprofessional.

After this the folder is shown to be on the lap of Emili;

The next shot shows the folder down, once again, although this is a very minor continuity error, it can make the clip seem disjointed. When watching our preliminary we realised this and became aware of how easy it is to make these errors.

Other mistakes that were made on the preliminary task consisted of things like lack of music. This may not have been needed in the preliminary as it was a very short film, however, music would have made it more entertaining, enjoyable and even made it easier to view.

After editing once we all became more accustomed to the ins and outs of iMovie, we could then apply the rules of using iMovie to our Horror opening - the editing is smoother and cleaner. In addition to editing the camera handling in our Horror opening is far more considerate in making the framing more smooth and clean, without jiggling and jolts.

Finally the storyboard to our Horror opening has been produced with far more intricate detail, concerning not only what the actor/actress should be doing , but, what shot should be used whether credits are appearing and where they are appearing etc.
